Hervé Rousseau
Hervé Rousseau | Ceramist
Born in 1955. Lives and works in La Borne, Cher. From 1988 onwards, after Biot and its glazed earth, after Beauvaisis, Hervé Rousseau knew where he wanted to go: he wanted to reinterpret the extreme modesty and simplicity of popular ceramics, while giving them more monumental dimensions that lend themselves to installation and free them from their functional mission. Since then, the pieces have gone from strength to strength. Hervé Rousseau is at one with his material. For him, each installation is an opportunity to put on a performance that has been rehearsed a thousand times and to practice his gestures. He listens, observes, tramples and welcomes, through accompaniment and self-sacrifice. The work spits out its geological truth and speaks of its power, calmly... With very rare exceptions, Hervé Rousseau doesn't imagine enamel and favors stripping, matte finish and sobriety.
