Stéphane Pencréac'h

Stéphane Pencréac'h | Painter

"The first effect of Stéphane Pencréac'h's painting is to give us over to confusion. [...] This disquiet is not a reaction to situations or characters, or to the obscurity that works and bathes his paintings, but the bewitching expression of a vision. She constantly invites us to consider the imbalance between the effects of a society, a history and deeply intimate "scenes", dependent on secrets and impulses. Both manifest prohibitions, repressions and transgressions, and in their dramaturgy, the truth escapes as an enigma constructing her paintings. Stéphane Pencréac'h is a painter of history, borrowing his narratives from different cultures, different civilizations, and a painter "in tune" with his fantasies, his phantasmagorias."
