"The first effect of Stéphane Pencréac'h's painting is to give us over to confusion. [...] This disquiet is not a reaction to situations or characters, or to the obscurity that works and bathes his paintings, but the bewitching expression of a vision. She constantly invites us to consider the imbalance between the effects of a society, a history and deeply intimate "scenes", dependent on secrets and impulses. Both manifest prohibitions, repressions and transgressions, and in their dramaturgy, the truth escapes as an enigma constructing her paintings.
